Dressmaking Course and Sewing Club
Joelle Harris’ dressmaking course has proved really popular this autumn. This is a 5 week course designed to give you the skills to be able to tackle making clothes for yourself, it covers putting in zips, making buttonholes as well as the basics of using a sewing machine, stitching straight and curved lines and neatening.
All the ladies on the course chose to make clothing this time, skirts, and dresses for themselves or children. Everyone made great progress, some having never used a sewing machine before, now much more confident having tackled seams and neatening as well as bound edges using bias binding.
Everyone got a chance to use the overlocker and this was declared a hit, I think we all want to own one now!
We are now looking forward to Sewing Club, a follow on fortnightly group meeting with me there to support and advise. Anyone who has completed the course or is already a competent sewer is welcome to book on the sewing club, just £10 including the use of sewing machines and the overlocker! Do e.mail us for further details.
There are other sewing courses available at The Making House:
The next Dressmaking Course starts on 17th January
Before that we have Machine Embroidery Basics on Tuesday 16th October – no experience needed.
Make a lined bag from recycled materials 17th November – suitable for both those who love to sew and want to experiment and complete beginners too.

Are you doing any courses in dressmaking soon? I would be very interested.
Ness, I’ve only just noticed your comment, just a year late! In case you’re interested we’re running a few different sewing courses at The MAking House this summer
